Amused. And then not.
I lost 6 pounds (of the 20 to go), which is exciting to me especially because I haven't really been trying. And to celebrate (?) Erik came home from the grocery store with donuts, root beer float supplies, and cheese and crackers! Funny, huh? And yes, I ate all of it. Delicious!

Someone in a parenting group just posted that their 3 1/2 year old peed in the potty for the first time. Good Lord!! I sure as hell hope Simon is potty trained by that age! I was kind of hoping for 18 months ideally and 2 years at the latest. Granted, I'm not there yet and I am quite naive in these matters, but I don't want to be dependent on diapers for that long! And as an aside, our forays into EC haven't really been happening. I've been thinking about it a lot though, does that count?

When I worked at a day care center last year, more than 1/2 of the 3-4 yr olds were NOT potty trained. Some of them just refused to try period. I blame the parents for that attitude. Though I'm not a parent myself so I can't say I'm an expert. Some of them just needed a pull-up at nap time and that was no biggie. But the kids who would actually say "I'm pooping right now (in their diaper)" and could play elaborate games, sing songs and have complicated conversation-- but did not use the toilet was a frusteration to all of us teachers. My opinion is that many parents ask their kids IF they want to use the potty vs saying "this is the potty and this is where you'll be going potty in from now on". Not in a mean sort of way- just not in an asking optional sort of way. I don't know much about the infant no diaper method. Sounds interesting, do you know anyone who's used it successfully? Sounds like a challenge! Interesting subject though.

I can't believe that many kids weren't potty trained! I'm with you in terms of time to use the potty vs asking.

I know some people who have used EC successfully, but no one I'm actually close with. It does seem like a challenge, but hopefully worth it?

It's a tricky topic. I have seen parents of multiple children where one learned sooner than the other, one had more issues than the other, that sort of thing. Same parents, same parenting style, different kid.
You'll figure it out. :)

For goodness sake, don't start fretting about potty training now! =D When the time comes, you will get lots of help and advice from all the people in your life who have been there and done that. I have potty trained quite a few kids, and every single one was different. You will figure out what works with Simon and go with it. No worries!

LOL! I'm not fretting, but you know, when you deal with poop and pee all day long you start to think about these things :)

I actually like Rosemary's cloth diapers so much that I've thought to myself, "Gee it will be sad when we're not using these anymore." :P

Not that that would hinder me from training, in the least. We actually started trying a little bit ago, but it was such a disaster that we put the potty away - we all needed a break. I do hope it's not too much longer, though. But I hear the big key is to be patient ...

We have two kinds of potty chairs for Nic to use, but he absolutely REFUSES to go potty in them at this time. He will sit on them and pretend to go potty in them, but when we say "OK Nic, let's use your potty now" he will scream NO and run away. I am hoping to have him trained by age 3 because, I too, am tired of using diapers. We will see how it goes.
